10 of the Best Plant-based/Vegan Alternatives

After transitioning to a plant based diet, my family decided to go on a hunt for our favorite vegan alternatives. Like with anything vegan, we had to test out a lot of different things until we found which ones we liked the best. So if you're trying to go plant-based or want to cut more dairy or meat from your diet, here are 10 of my favorite Plant-based/Vegan Alternatives.

Eggs
1. Black Salt
This isn't exactly an alternative but when you are trying to make any egg alternative, having black salt really helps bring the egg "scent" to whatever you're making. It might sound funny but scent is so connected to taste so please don't write this one off, I absolutely love putting black salt in any egg dish that I make. You can usually find this in most spice aisles of a supermarket.

2. Just Egg
Okay, I am telling you, this one is so so good. If you're missing scrambled eggs or omelettes, I can hardly taste a difference with this. The consistency is so similar and in the end it tastes like real eggs to me. 10/10 recommend. I think you can only really find this brand at Whole Foods, but I promise you it is worth it.

Yogurt
3. Oui by Yoplait

*Update: I'll keep the link for this up so you can see the brand but this is not the dairy free version. The dairy free version just got released in January so feel free to pick it up when you're grocery shopping!
I've never been a huge fan of yogurt but my sister is someone that used to have a yogurt almost every day and after a lot of trial and error, she says this is one of the best alternative she's found. I've seen this one in my local super market, Stop and Shop.

Milk
4. Califia Farms Oatmilk

Finding an alternative to milk seemed to be the easiest of all because of all of the options available, but one of the alternatives I've really been enjoying lately is Oatmilk. I like this brand, and if you're a big fan of the famous Oatly brand I think they taste super similar. I don't remember where I found this one, I think it may have been Whole Foods or Stop and Shop, but any brand of Oatmilk should do!

Butter
5. Earth Balance

Okay, I will never go back to regular butter after this. I honestly think that this butter tastes the same if not better than regular butter and it's kind of comforting to know that it is completely plant-based. This brand is also pretty easy to find, we usually get ours at Stop and Shop.

Chicken
6. Morning Star

Of all the faux chicken products around, my favorite is a classic, Morningstar. They have recently been transitioning from vegetarian to vegan products and I am so happy because I honestly think their chicken products taste the best. My favorite are the chicken patties, but their chicken nuggets and other products are really good too! This brand is also pretty easy to find, so we usually get ours at Stop and Shop.

*For these next 3 categories I recommend finding these in store just because the links I found are really only meant to show you what they look like. In today's climate these were pretty difficult to find online.

*Sausages
7. Beyond Sausage

This one was honestly a huge surprise to me. I couldn't believe how much these tasted like real meat, I had to check the label just to make sure. I would recommend getting these in store because I couldn't find a great link for them online, but I've definitely seen them at Whole Foods!

*Burgers and Meatballs
8. 365 Smoky and Spicy Burger
When it comes to veggie burgers, this one is my favorite. It doesn't taste exactly like a regular burger but its pretty close. We always add a little vegan burger seasoning and it always tastes just as good. 365 is the Whole Foods brand, so you can find these exclusively at Whole Foods.

9. 365 Meatless Meatballs

I had to add another 365 product because when it comes to meat alternatives, they really have the formula down. These are the best meatless meatballs I have tasted as a vegan, so much so that I had to check the label after eating them.

*Cheese
Last but certainly not least, cheese. I am a HUGE cheese lover, and it was part of the reason I was so worried about going vegan. I didn't think I would be able to quit cheese, but it has been easier than I thought it would be, especially because I found an alternative that helps fill that craving.

10. Violife
I couldn't find an amazon link for this one, but I know that it is exclusively sold at Whole Foods market right now. I have made grilled cheeses with this, I've added it to omelets, pastas, and so much more. It's not quite what I remember cheese tasting like but it is so close that I really don't feel the need to go back to regular cheese.
